The floating city ... the long-awaited dream

Business Insider said a number of engineers and designers had presented to United Nations officials, for the first time, the design of the "floating city", described as "the long-awaited dream."

The unveiling of the city's floating design took place during a United Nations meeting on April 3, the source said, adding that the idea had been endorsed and admired by officials.

"The United Nations will support and sponsor this project, in contrast to previous designs that have been presented over the past years and have encountered many uncertainties," said the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program.

"Everyone in the company wants this project to succeed and bring it to life," said Mark Collins, chief executive officer of Oceanix, a specialist in building floating buildings. "We're not just speculating."

"Building structures will be designed to withstand all kinds of natural disasters, including floods, tsunamis and Category 5 hurricanes," he said. The company believes that the "floating city" project will address the problem of severe housing shortages and threats from rising sea levels.

She says the project will be built in a special area, similar to the island, indicating that the population will be close to 10 thousand people. "The ideal population is 10,000, because it will allow the island to achieve a kind of complete autonomy, by producing its own energy, fresh water and heat," she said. The city will not have any trucks for garbage collection and cleaning, as it will cost the pipes of the operation process, beginning to transfer garbage to the delivery to the sorting station.
